Lepidoptera Team Objectives

  • Provide information on lepidoptera resistance issues globally
  • Development of educational material on IRM
  • Support of other IRAC WGs and CGs
  • Review a possible merger with the Diamide WG

Team Leader: Sybille Lamprecht, Bayer CropScience

It was recognised that the Team would have a broad remit, but the intention is to focus initially on specific priority pests such as diamond back moth and the tomato leafminer. Shortly after forming the Lepidoptera Team, the longer established IRAC Codling Moth Team was incorporated into the same team as there were less resistance issues with codling moth following the introduction of some newer chemistries. It is also clear that there will be overlap with the IRAC Diamides Team so liaison between the teams will continue to be important.

Tuta Absoluta

IRAC presented information on Tuta absoluta at the recent Joint International Symposium in Agadir, Morocco. Copies of all the presentations are now available via the EPPO website (www.eppo.org) or via the direct link http://archives.eppo.org/MEETINGS/2011_conferences/tuta_absoluta.htm.

New poster describing IRM recomendations for Tuta Absoluta

The Tomato Leafminer Tuta absoluta is a pest of great economic importance with high reproduction capabilities and short generation life cycle which makes it at risk of developing resistance. The pest has spread from L. America, where there is already resistance to a range of MOA groups, to Europe, the Middle East and N. Africa. Using the Tuta absoluta poster IRAC is taking pro-active steps to advise on key management strategies to evaluate and reduce the spread of resistance.
