A great new IRM Operational Vector Manual has just been published by IRAC providing the reader with practical knowledge and tools required to implement insecticide resistance management in vector control programmes. This pocket size booklet is a shortened version of the earlier larger IRAC Vector Manual. Both the full version and smaller operational pocket version have the same title “Prevention and Management of Insecticide Resistance in Vectors of Public Health Importance” and are available online via the IRAC website (see the document links within the text above). Printed copies are available from the IRAC Coordinator at enquiries@irac-online.org.

Monday, August 1st, 2011In this latest issue (No. 27) there is a report on the 46th IRAC International Meeting and updates on new resources and publications from the IRAC MoA, Public Health and Methods Teams. We also spotlight some of the recent resistance articles that have appeared in journals over the last few months along with the usual summary of IRAC activities and details of upcoming conferences and symposia. IRAC has been busy providing IRM education in S.E. Asia and we provide an update on recent workshops in Thailand and the Philippines.
Updated IRAC MoA Classification (v7.1) now published
Thursday, June 9th, 2011The latest issue of the IRAC MoA Classification has now been released and posted on the MoA Team page of the website (MoA Classification Scheme v7.1). Changes include the addition of some new actives and the re-classification of a couple of existing actives. A second edition of the small IRAC MoA booklet is in the process of being printed and this will be based on the latest version of the classification.
IRAC International’s 46th Meeting – Another Success!

IRAC International held their 46th meeting in the CropLife International offices in Brussels on 28th – 31st March 2011. This was our biggest ever meeting with 46 participants, including visitors from the European resistance action groups as well as IRAC representatives from around the world. The meeting consisted of a mixture of concurrent IRAC working group sessions, a meeting of the Executive Committee and an International review day. There was an excellent exchange of information with around 40 presentations made during the course of the 4 days. The existing elected officers, including Ralf Nauen as the IRAC Chairman were unanimously re-elected for a further year.
Updated monitoring and IRM guidelines in Oilseed
Monday, April 4th, 2011In 2010 the IRAC Oilseed Rape Working Group in collaboration with multiple researchers located around Europe, continued to monitor the susceptibility status of pollen beetle samples to pyrethroid insecticides. A summary of the findings from this survey can be found on our 2010 pollen beetle monitoring poster. In order to help monitor potential susceptibility changes to other insecticides, new methods for monitoring pollen beetle susceptibility to neonicotinoids and organophosphates have also been drafted and these can be found on the eMethods section of the IRAC web-site. 2010 has also seen an increased diversity of control options for pollen beetle and our oilseed rape resistance management guidelines have also been updated to reflect these changes. The guidelines have additionally been summarised in a new IRM guidelines poster format, to help spread the resistance management message.
Myzus persicae Resistance Alert!

Aphid monitoring surveys in peach orchards conducted by Syngenta Crop Protection and Bayer CropScience have revealed that some populations of the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) in Southern France and Northern Spain have developed high levels of resistance to neonicotinoid insecticides.

Two new Test Methods from IRAC
Monday, February 14th, 2011IRAC Test Methods for Myzus persicae nymphs (No. 023) and for Aphis gossypii nymphs (No. 024), both for use with the MoA Group 28 active, cyantraniliprole, have been developed and posted on the website by the IRAC Methods Team. The methods are available for downloaded from the IRAC website via the links: Method No. 023 and Method No. 024.
IRAC publishes 3 new IRM vector posters
Monday, November 8th, 2010Two new posters from the IRAC Public Health Team and a further poster from the IRAC MoA Team all relate to different aspects of resistance management in mosquitoes as vectors of malaria. Topics covered by the posters include a general overview of the importance of insect resistance management, the increasing importance of biomolecular techniques for resistance monitoring and the importance of MoA in IRM strategies. IRAC publishes a new and extensively updated second edition of their Vector Manual
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010IRAC has just published the second edition of the very popular manual “Prevention and Management of Insecticide Resistance in Vectors of Public Health Importance”. This has been extensively revised and updated with many completely new sections added to chapters, along with further graphs and figures including some very useful flowcharts explaining resistance management best practice and what to do if you suspect resistance. Copies of the manual will be printed for circulation shortly but in the meantime you can be downloaded this second edition from the website.
